Stories

When your family gets together, do you find that certain stories get retold over and over again? For us it was the time the pigs rooted through the fence on Sunday and how mom was such a sight trying to get them back into the pen in her church clothes and how the big muddy one scooted between her legs sending her to the ground like a toppled bowling pin or when I fell through the ceiling trying to install insulation in the attic and how five foot four Dad picked six foot me up and carried me out of the house, thinking I had broken every bone in my body, all the while I’m reassuring him that “I’m OK, I’m OK, Dad, you can put me down now.”

These don’t mean a thing to you, but when our family tells them, we never fail to laugh one more time.

Stories keep us connected. They are those shared memories that remind us we belong someplace. That’s why we keep telling them.

Remember your stories. Tell as many as you can around the table this year. Have everyone share a favorite. See if it doesn’t bring you a little closer.

Happy Thanksgiving.
